I Blame the Parents – Thanks Dad

Posted November 15 2013

Today was my Dad’s birthday. He would have been 83 today, but in fact he died over eleven years ago, in May 2002.

I can’t pretend that today was especially sad, because time does heal and, even at the time of his death, it was a release for him. But now I have a few minutes to think about his influence on me and the kind of person I would have been without him.

Well, obviously I wouldn’t exist at all without him…

I could blame my Dad for a lot.

My lack of confidence, my lack of ambition, my nervousness, fear of water, even fear of success, ALL of which I have overcome.

Or I can take responsibility for myself and know that who and what I became was always up to me.

Or I can give him credit for my becoming a reasonable, rational human being, able to even come to that conclusion…

The truth is, we’re all combinations of our natures and our nurturing, products of who we are, where we came from and what we experience.

We all have a choice, right now, to learn the lessons that life has taught us, to make what we can of ourselves and our lives, starting from here.

And you can choose, today, to help your business deliver the things you always dreamed of, dreams you might have had all your life, probably since long before you started in business.

Unless that scares you…

Remember Susan Jeffers said: “Feel the fear and do it anyway”.
